An alternative to classroom learning

WHM Work Connections can offer a range of vocational land-based qualifications for students aged 16 to 25 yrs. Students will select one of the following pathways…

  • Horticulture

  • Animal Care

  • Construction

An exciting balance of hands-on practical skill development and theoretical learning located on a working Dairy Farm and Horticultural Nursery within Leicestershire.

All vocational pathways are supported by an Employability Skills qualification meaning that students will have the best possible chance for progression, gaining independence and getting employment in the future.

Functional Skills (English & Maths) qualifications are also available

Horticulture Pathway

Gain an Entry Level 3, Level 1 or Level 2 in Practical Horticulture based at Six Acre Nurseries.

Our learning facilities include nine polytunnels, workshops, glasshouses, growing lines and plant beds. Alongside the learning facilities students will have opportunity to be part of the day to day tasks required at a Garden Centre- gaining invaluable work experience and an insight into a career in the sector.

Work-based Animal Care

Work with a wide range of animals at our Dairy Farm based facilities to gain an Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 qualification in Work-based Animal Care.

For those interested in animals this qualification will give you the knowledge and practical skills required for progression in the animal care sector.

You will work with; Dairy Cows, Calves, Sheep, Pigs, Ponies, Donkeys, Chickens, Pygmy Goats, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Degus, Rats and Chinchillas!

Construction Skills

Our Constructions Skills Qualification provides a great introduction into the construction industry.

Students will be supported  to gain essential skills such as bricklaying, carpentry and joinery. Students can work from Entry 3 to Level 1. This practical course will see students engaged in real life projects, building and making products supported by an experienced craftsmen, builder and Tutor- Rob Wells.

Employability Skills

Alongside students’ chosen Pathways they will be supported to complete an Employability Skills qualifications.

This qualification will ensure that students possess the necessary, skills, knowledge and experience to find and keep a job in the future.

Students will engage in work placements, be supported to visit different working environments and will have opportunity to work alongside industry professionals. Students will be supported to develop their  confidence, daily living skills and gain independence.

WHM supports students with travel training and personal safety.

Functional Skills (English & Maths)

WHM can support students to gain Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 Functional skills in English and/ or Maths.
